High School

I'm going to my 10 year high school reunion this weekend.

So, I've been thinking a bit about The Westminster Schools, Atlanta, GA.

I looked at the student handbook online. It hasn't changed much except that now, in the Student Conduct section there are policies about computers and the Westminster Information Network, etc . . .

I think they gave me an email address in high school, but I had no idea what to do with it, and like I EVER went into the computer lab! At home, I think we had Prodigy, but we didn't know what it was or how to use it.

Old lady Jen went to high school before the internet!!!

The dress code is the same, pretty much. Boys still must be clean shaven and must not wear coveralls. That is unfortunate. For girls, I think one phrase has changed, "Shirts should be tucked in unless specifically designed not to be." I'm not sure what that means if girls are also forbidden to wear bare midriffs.

I was looking for a specific rule of conduct in the Westminster High School Handbook.

The Discipline Council has done away with the handbooks most notorious rule, The 45 Degree Angle Rule!

The 45 Degree Angle Rule stated that it was not in good conduct for student to lie down in a position perpendicular to the ground. The student's body must form an obtuse, 135 degree angle, maintaining an angle of 45 degrees between him or herself and the ground at all times.

I guess this was to discourage sleeping and making out.

I'd like to take the credit in the Off-Limit's section for area #7: Woodruff Elementary School Playground.

My friends and I used to go play on the playground during our free period during our stressful Junior year until we were "arrested" by the campus police. We didn't end up getting detention, because this area was not in the handbook as "off-limits." It has been off limits ever since.

You're welcome, Westminster.
